A Guide to Understanding & Leveraging Your Ranking

You've got the hands. You've got the instincts. You've spent years perfecting the art of the innocent face while sitting on a hand that's about to ruin somebody's night. Now it's time to put a number on it, and more importantly, to use that number to your advantage.

Step One: Getting Your First Number

Nobody hands you a rank just for showing up. You earn it, and there are two easy roads to your first one.

The first road is simply playing. Join a sanctioned club game, league night, or tournament tracked through AMR, play your games, and let the results speak. After a handful of tracked games, the system has enough information to give you an honest starting number. No test, no interview, just tiles.

The second road is for the player who's been running a home game for fifteen years and doesn't need a warmup lap. Ask your local club about an evaluation with an AMR Master Instructor. They'll watch you play, in person or remotely, and assign you a starting rank that actually reflects the skill you walked in with. Consider it a shortcut for the already dangerous.

Your Move

Mahjong has always rewarded patience, memory, and a little bit of nerve. Now it rewards you with a number that proves it.

Go find a table, play like you mean it, and watch where you land.
